SAS Explorers: Wet Weekend and Awards Ceremony!
It has been another busy few weeks at the SAS Explorer Scout Unit!
The SAS Explorer Scout unit have recently returned from a weekend at Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead, where some leaders from the unit (as well as two leaders from 52nd Ayrshire) took part in the initial stages of their kayaking permit training and some explorers took part in an activity weekend. Despite strong winds and plenty of rain, the weekend was enjoyed by all in attendance.
The explorers enjoyed activities such as mountain biking, kayaking and gorge walking and the leaders hope to return in March 2018 to finish off the necessary requirements in order to achieve their permits.

This year’s intake of Scouts have now settled into the unit and will be invested in the coming weeks. This was marked with a moving on ceremony where the unit was also presented with the Bronze Youth Approved Award (after gaining the Foundation award in May).

As well as this, two leaders from the unit – Ryan Conlan and James Galloway – were given their Queen’s Scout Award. The two boys are very pleased with this achievement and are glad the hard work is finally over! James Galloway was also presented with his Wood Badge for completing his adult leader training modules.

Remember, you can follow the unit on Twitter or take a look at our website where you’ll find more information on the unit!
