COVID-19 UPDATE

Date: 16th Mar 2020 Author: James Galloway

In light of the recent information given by the Prime Minister and the professionals relating social gatherings and non-essential contact, it is recommended that we suspend all Scouting activities – whether this is a sectional meeting or for a residential experience – until further advice has been given.

We appreciate that schools are still meeting, but we need to protect the health of both our young people and adult members and therefore we have taken this decision with regards to Scouting across all of South West Region.

If you have a camp or event planned, we advise that you speak to whoever is hosting and find out whether you can delay the event or get a refund following the new information issued.

Although this is not what we want as Scouting provides a valuable service to young people, we must consider the health and wellbeing of our young people and their families.

Leaders should receive an email from Gilwell this evening with further information.

Please pass this information on to as many people as you can, both inside and outside of our district.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
